gearsParts

A part is a component that can be used as part of an asset. Parts are tracked as inventory items at your locations. If you have the manufacturing module enabled, parts can be used to build an assembly. Parts can be removed or added from assets to track their evolution over time.

Parts may be serialized (usually for more expensive or identifiable electronics such as a control board, motor, LiDAR, or tablet) or non-serialized (usually for less expensive or identifiable components such as frames, bolts, and screws).

Understand part relationships

A part is associated with parts inventory, which includes how many units of the part you have in inventory. For example, you may have 100 units of part LDR-4.1 in your Chicago warehouse.

Units can be transferred between inventory locations. For example, you may move 25 units of part LDR-4.1 from your Chicago warehouse to your Milwaukee operations center.

Unit counts can be adjusted for each inventory location. For example, you may discover 5 units of part LDR-4.1 are missing from your Chicago warehouse and need to adjust down, or discover 5 units are present in your Milwaukee operations center and need to adjust up.

Parts can be referenced in a product bill of materials (BOM), along with the requisite quantities. For example, a Lawnmower product may by default include 2 units of part LDR-4.1.

With the manufacturing module, parts can become a component in a product assembly before the assembly is registered as an asset. For example, you may assemble 2 units of part LDR-4.1 into a Lawnmower assembly.

Parts can be tracked as a component of an asset after an asset is registered, or when maintenance is recorded for an asset. For example, you may remove 1 unit of part LDR-4.1 from a Lawnmower asset and add on 2 units of part LDR-5.2.

List all parts

To see a list of all parts, navigate to the parts catalogarrow-up-right in the configuration menu under your user name at the top right.

Here you will see a table with part SKUs, names, description, serialization, and status. Use the search or filter options to refine the parts catalog.

Create a part

To create an individual part, click the "Add part" button and a window will appear. Enter the part's SKU, name, description, and unit of measure. You can also select whether the part accepts serial numbers:

  • Serialized parts can have serial numbers added during assembly and as part of asset records. For example, if a part has an OEM serial number that you want that to be tracked as part of your build.

  • Non-serialized parts do not accept serial numbers.

Note that serial numbers are not required, even for parts that accept serial numbers. Parts are still recorded simply as a unit quantity. This is different than assets, where each asset is defined by a serial.

"Add part" window

SKU and Name are the only fields required to create a new product.

Bulk creation

To import parts in bulk, you can use the CSV uploader to create or update multiple parts at once. Click the menu icon in the parts catalog and select "Import parts" to access the uploader.

The CSV uploader workflow includes:

  1. Download template: Download a CSV template with the required columns and formatting

  2. Prepare your data: Fill in the template with your part information (SKU, name, description, unit of measure, and serialization settings)

  3. Upload and validate: Upload your CSV file and review any validation errors

  4. Review results: See which parts were created or updated successfully

The CSV uploader validates your data before importing. Any rows with errors will be highlighted so you can correct them before proceeding.

You can also use your own data by setting up API access. If you'd like to set up an integration with your ERP, please contact supportenvelope.
