Navigation
The navigation bar appears at the top of every page in Hardfin. It provides quick access to dashboards, core workflows, reporting tools, global search, and your account settings, allowing you to move between tasks without losing context.
Layout of the navigation bar
The navigation bar is organized into distinct regions from left to right:
Organization logo and name - Clicking the logo or organization name takes you back to the assets dashboard
Main navigation sections - Six top-level sections that group related features like setup, planning, tracking, and reporting
Subsection bar - A secondary bar that appears below the main navigation when a section is active, showing shortcuts to key pages within that section
Global search - An AI-powered search bar for quickly finding navigation pages, assets, customers, locations, and projects
User menu - Your account avatar with access to settings, help resources, and sign out

Main navigation sections
The main navigation is divided into six sections, each containing related subsections. Hovering over a section reveals a dropdown menu with descriptions of each subsection. Some subsections may display a "Coming soon" label indicating features that are not yet available.

Dashboards
The dashboards section provides summary views of your projects, assets, products, customers, and locations with real-time analytics.
Assets - Overview of your complete asset fleet by product and location, with links to detailed asset reports
Products - Summary of active SKUs with performance and logistics trends by product line
Customers - Customer accounts and activity metrics, including asset ownership patterns
Locations - Geographic distribution of assets across inventory and non-inventory locations, including the interactive map view

Setup & configure
The setup and configure section is where you manage foundational data for your organization.

Customers - Set up and manage customer accounts

The track and manage section is for monitoring active operations and recording time and costs.
Active projects - Review projects currently in progress, including timelines and deliverables
Deployed assets - Monitor assets currently deployed in the field at customer locations

Accounting - Manage accounting periods, review journal entries, and perform monthly close processes
Reporting - Run operational and financial performance reports across assets, projects, and billing
Audit logs - Maintain compliance with full system change history tracking

Subsection bar
When you select a main navigation section, a secondary bar appears directly beneath the navigation. This subsection bar displays the key pages for that section with icons and labels, making it easy to navigate between related features without returning to the dropdown menu.
The subsection bar highlights the page you are currently viewing. On smaller screens, the subsection bar is hidden and its functionality is incorporated into the mobile navigation menu.

Global search
The global search bar in the navigation provides quick access to any area of the application. You can click the search bar or use the keyboard shortcut:
Mac: Command + K (Cmd+K)
Windows/Linux: Control + K (Ctrl+K)

Global search uses Hardfin AI to search across navigation pages, assets, customers, locations, and projects. As you type, results appear organized by category, and you can use the arrow keys to navigate and Enter to select a result.

Global search is the fastest way to navigate when you know the name, serial number, or project code you're looking for. For detailed information about search capabilities and filters, see Search.
User menu
The user menu is accessed by clicking your avatar in the top right corner of the navigation bar. It displays your name and email, and provides access to account settings, help resources, and sign out.

Administration
The administration section of the user menu provides access to:
User account - Manage your personal profile, password, and notification preferences. See Account for details.
Organization settings - Configure organization-wide settings including branding, workflows, and user management. See Organization for details.
Integrations - Set up and manage connections to CRM systems and other external tools. See Integrations for details.
Environment - Switch between production and sandbox environments if your organization has multiple environments configured. See Sandbox for details.
Help and documentation
The help section provides quick links to:
User guide - Opens this documentation site in a new tab
API docs - Opens the Hardfin API documentation for developers
Contact support - Opens an email to the Hardfin support team
Sign out
Click "Sign out" to end your session and return to the login page.
Mobile navigation
On smaller screens, the navigation bar adapts to provide a mobile-friendly experience:
Menu button - A menu icon appears on the left side of the navigation bar. Tapping it opens a side drawer that lists all main sections and their subsections with icons and descriptions.
Global search - The search bar is replaced by a magnifying glass icon. Tapping it opens a full-width search overlay where you can type your query and view results.
User menu - The avatar and user menu remain accessible in the top right corner.
Tips for navigating efficiently
Use dashboards for a high-level overview before drilling into specific records
Use the subsection bar to quickly switch between related pages within a section
Use global search when you know the name, serial number, or project code you're looking for
Use filtered views like "Upcoming projects" or "Available assets" from the Plan & deploy section instead of manually filtering generic lists
Confirm your environment in the user menu before making changes to ensure you're working in production or sandbox as intended
